32 dead as Russian plane crashes in Syria

A Russian transport plane crashed on landing at the Hmeimim airbase in Syria Tuesday, killing all 32 on board, Russia’s defence ministry said.



The statement by RIA Novosti agency said that there were 26 passengers and 6 crew. The statement did not specify whether all of them were in the military.


The ministry said that the reason for the crash according to preliminary information could have been a technical fault.


A commission will investigate the causes of the crash.
