By-Election Cancelled Over Cash-For-Votes

A day after cash-for-votes allegations surfaced, the Election Commission cancelled the by-elections in Chennai RK Nagar. The decision came after Income Tax raids in Chennai found money was distributed to voters.

The officials of the Income Tax department alleged that the VK Sasikala faction of the party paid Rs 89 crore to voters to gain support for its candidate TTV Dinakaran. Also, they cited documents seized during the raids including properties of the state health minister C Vijayabaskar.

The Sasikala faction has denied the allegations.
