CJI Dipak Misra faces impeachment motion
The opposition parties led by the Congress met the Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu to hand over a notice for an impeachment of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
According to sources, as many as 64 MPs belonging to seven political parties today signed the notice for impeachment proceedings against the CJI. They include MPs from the Cong, the NCP, CPM, the CPI, the SP, the BSP and the Muslim League.
The MPs who signed the notice are from the Congress, the NCP, the CPI-M and CPI, the SP and the BSP. This is for the first time in the country’s history that the opposition parties have moved an impeachment motion.
