The election commission had responded to BJP president Amit Shah’s request to conduct the Assembly and Parliament elections simultaneously. The EC clarified that ‘Jamili’ elections is not possible as the EC is not fully equipped with the necessary equipment for the simultaneous elections. The EC commissioner O.P. Rawat clarified to carry the assembly elections of various states along with the Lok Sabha elections next year.
The EC also said that it doesn’t have the sufficient VVPAT machines for the Jamili elections and isn’t clear whether the machines would be delivered on time if ordered. However, Amit Shah felt Jamili elections would reduce the cost on the government.
