Kerala rains: Death toll rises to 26

At least 26 people were killed due to heavy rains in Kerala. Also, a series of landslides were also triggered due to heavy downpour in the hilly district and northern parts since Wednesday night.


A red alert has been sounded ahead of the impending release of water from the Idduki Reservoir, the largest arch dam in Asia.




According to a home ministry spokesperson, of the total deaths, 11 people died in Idukki district, five in Malappuram district, three in Wayanad, two in Kannur and one in Kozhikode.


On Thursday, Idukki dam was opened after 26 years following rising water levels.
