Kochi Airport suffers Rs 200 cr loss due to floods

The massive floods that devastated Kerala had finally mellowed down a bit and the rescue operations have paced up. With the situation in the state seems coming under control, the Airport Authority is planning to open the Kochi Airport on 26th August after kept it closed for over 12 days.

 

 

With the Periyar river gates being opened, the Airport and the surrounding areas appeared like a Sea. The Solar power plant which was installed with a budget of Rs 60 crores recently was damaged completely. In fact, Kochi Airport is the first Airport in the world that runs completely on solar power. The runway, taxiway, the 2-kilometer long compound wall, everything was damaged in the floods and the officials claimed that around Rs 220 crores of loss was incurred to the Airport due to the floods.
