Pakistan Election 2018 Results: Imran Khan leads polls as rivals cry foul

Millions of Pakistanis voted on Wednesday to elect a new government and prime minister in an election. Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party led polls in the country’s general election, as rival parties claimed widespread irregularities and alleged coercion of their candidates by the military.

While final results are expected in the coming hours, initial outcomes suggested the PTI would emerge as the largest single party in the national government.

Imran Khan’s PTI party is leading in 112 of 272 contested National Assembly constituencies. Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was ahead in 64 constituencies, and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by the son of assassinated two-time prime minister Benazir Bhutto, led in 44 constituencies.
