The Supreme Court has ordered the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide security to the family of the Kathua gang-rape victim, Asifa. It also ordered that security must be provided to the lawyers arguing the case on Asifa’s behalf.
The orders came after Asifa’s father filed a petition requesting the court to shift the case to the Chandigarh High Court as he did not believe that the case would be dealt with properly in Kathua. He also said in his petition that he was concerned about the security of his family. A lawyer of the family also said that the situation in Jammu did not inspire confidence about the case.
Meanwhile, the Kathua court adjourned the hearing to the 28th of this month. The police have filed a chargesheet against eight individuals, including a retired revenue officer, two police officials and a minor.
