Recent incidents have proved beyond doubt that India is an unsafe place for women and children. Not even Smriti Irani, Union Minister and powerful female icon, has been able to escape from this. A year back, Smriti’s behicle had been tagged by four students of Delhi University as she was travelling from Delhi airport to a residence in Chanakyapuri.
The young men had hemmed her in and passed adverse comments against her. On her instructions, the Delhi police had arrested the miscreants, who were later released on bail. However, the investigation has been sped up now. A chargesheet has been filed, booking the younsters under Sections 354D and 509, for outraging the modesty of a woman, harassment and defamation. It is certain that the young men will end up in prison again.
