After scoring a decent hit with ‘Malli Raava’ after over a decade, Sumanth is busy with a series of films. For the first time in his career, Sumanth attempted a mystery thriller ‘Subramanyapuram’. Let’s see whether the change in the genre can help his fortunes or not.

Story:

Set in the village of Subrahmanyapuram, it’s all about debunking the mysterious suicides of farmers. Karthik (Sumanth) is a temple researcher by profession and an atheist in nature. He is handed the project to investigate the mysteries around a temple in Subrahmanyapuram.

By the time he enters the village, the villagers are in a state of deep shock and misery due to a series of suicides. They believe that it was the God’s curse for some evil doings. However, Karthik suspects some foul play behind all the mass suicides. What is the reason behind it and can Karthik solve the mystery is the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Though the director chose an interesting concept, he failed to execute it properly. The movie could have been a good one provided a good execution in terms of screenplay, music and production values.

Verdict:

With an average first half and a bit better second half, ‘Subramanyapuram’ has nothing to rave about. It’s one of those films which excite on the paper but fails to translate on the big screen.
