Cyclone Nivar which has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm continued to batter Telugu states. Andhra Pradesh in the last few hours suffered heavy to extremely heavy rainfall ranging from 6 cm to 30 under the influence of the cyclone.
As per the recent reports from State Disaster Management Authority, SPS Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Krishna, Prakasam and East Godavari districts received heavy to extremely heavy rainfall while a farmer in Chittoor district feared death.
All the efforts put in by the NDRF and State Emergency Response and Fire Services personnel went in vain with one of the three farmers stuck in the flood was washed away from a reservoir in Chittoor district. Uprooted trees also blocked traffic on roads in Kadapa, Chittoor and SPS Nellore districts.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy sounded an alert and instructed the state machinery to be prepared. Nellore district collector has issued instructions to close all schools for three days from today till November 27. SPS Nellore district, which was the worst hit with rainfall as high as 30 cm, at least 3,363 people were shifted to 115 relief camps from vulnerable areas.
