While the deadly viral infection continued to take a toll at the US and Mexico, the third worst-hit country India reported 64,531 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
According to the official data from the Union Health Ministry, the total caseload of the country is now at 27,67,274 inching towards the 2.8 million-mark.
On the other hand, the Indian states in the last 24 hours registered 1,092 fatalities while the country’s death toll has surged to 52,889. As per the official data, as many as 20,37,871 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far while the reported active COVID-19 cases in India stand at 6,76,514.
Total samples tested up to 18th August is 3,17,42,782 including 8,01,518 samples tested on Tuesday, stated Indian Council of Medical Research. Maharashtra, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are the states with the highest number of cases in the country.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh’s COVID-19 tally crossed the three lakh-mark on Tuesday with 9,652 new infections and 88 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. While the tally climbed to 3,06,261, the death toll went up to 2,820.
Telangana reported 1,682 fresh coronavirus cases and 8 deaths, pushing the state’s tally of positive cases to 93,937. With eight more fatalities the toll rose to 711
