Taken up to ease the bottlenecked traffic in the city’s IT sector, Hyderabad’s Biodiversity Junction flyover has brought a sigh of relief to the techies who stride to their workplaces every day. No sooner did the commuters realised that it turned into a bane with a series of accidents. Not even fifteen days after the 990-meter long flyover was turned open for the public, it recorded three major accidents.
By the time the city forgets the shocking accident of a couple who lost their lives on this flyover, another horrifying accident struck the locals. A red Volkswagen bearing the number TS09 EW 5659 which lost control apparently due to overspeed fell off the flyover. It fell on another car parked by the road below which killed a pedestrian who was waiting for an auto at the circle. While the injured women died on the spot, three people who were in the car were rushed to the nearby hospital. Upon preliminary investigation, it was known that car losing its control at the deep curve of the flyover was the main reason behind the accident.
On this note, many of the commuters including the designers have blamed the failure of the flyover’s design which has too many swift curves. They have confronted that regardless of the speed, it has become difficult to control the speed on the flyover. Last week the same spot has recorded an accident in which a couple lost their lives as the car crashed them while clicking a selfie. Meanwhile, allegations are rife that the structural design has had some last-minute changes in favour of one of the real estate businessman. This drew flak from the public who demanded the government to take immediate measures and to come with a permanent solution.
