20 rapes followed by clever murders in the span of 4-5 years. Claimed to be one of the notorious killers in Karnataka, Mohan famous after his secret weapon ‘Cyanide’ has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in one of the cases. Manguluru’s sixth additional district and sessions court on Tuesday sentenced Mohan to life and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000. The verdict was given over the 19th of the 20 murder cases for murdering a 23-year old woman from Kasaragod district of Kerala in 2006.
According to the charge sheet against Mohan, he met with the woman at work in a unit of CAMPCO in Mangaluru. After befriending and offering to marry her, on January 3 in 2006, he took her to Mysuru and stayed in a lodge near the bus stand. The next day, Mohan gave her a pill coated with cyanide convincing it to be a contraceptive pill. Mohan then left the place with the woman’s ornaments. He was later taken into custody at Bantwal in 2009.
Later, the police interrogation revealed shocking truths which became a sensation back then. Admitted to killing 20 women, Mohan revealed the chilling modus operandi behind the rape and murders. Situations, women and places might be different but the only thing common is the weapon he used to kill…Cyanide.
Earlier, he had been awarded death sentence in five cases and life imprisonment in three cases. Two of the death penalties were later commuted to life imprisonment.
