The IPL season like every time brought a new headache to the Cyberabad police who nabbed 23 bookies as the former busted multiple cricket betting rackets on Wednesday. In a major crackdown on gambling and betting in the city, the police found out that a network of bookies has trapped many youths in the city, who have got addicted to playing high stakes and losing huge sums of hard-earned money.
Cyberabad police who raided based on information that betting was on in seven places in the city, police seized Rs.93 lakh, eight laptops, and 275 mobile phones apart from tabs, computers, television sets, and five cars, altogether valued at Rs.2.21 crore.
Confirming the same, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said that the main organizer Suresh alias Maha of Vijaywada is the kingpin organizing the betting racket is still absconding. “Maha with the help of his associates Suresh, Chintha Venu, G Venkatesh cordite with sub bookies from different locations in the state,” he added.
