Adding strength to the Chinese local media which has been alleging the government of hiding the real death toll, Tencent, a Chinese multinational conglomerate holding company revealed shocking numbers. Triggering the speculations if the government is conspiring to hide the truth, China’s second-biggest company on Thursday has inadvertently leaked the true extent of the coronavirus death toll as more than 24,589 vastly higher than the official figure.
Into details, Tencent on its official webpage has been popping Coronavirus updates through a dashboard titled ‘Epidemic Situation Tracker’ which on Thursday displayed 24,589 deaths & 1,54,023 infected which created panic amongst the citizen. In the wake of many leading journals reporting that the coronavirus numbers coming out of China are misleading, multiple sources in Wuhan added strength to these reports who confronted that many coronavirus patients are unable to receive treatment and die outside of hospitals. Local media also published multiple reports of Wuhan officials cremating deceased coronavirus victims before they could be added to the official death toll.
On the other hand, Tencent hours later has updated the numbers to reflect the government”s official numbers which further created chaos in the Chinese media. News also had it that the government officials tend to play their game on Tencent covering it up as a coding problem behind the real internal data. While Tencent was yet to officially comment on these reports, Caijing, an independent magazine based in Beijing that covers societal, political, and economic issues, claimed that the Communist Party of China (CCP) is underreporting the extent of the coronavirus outbreak.
