By the time the nation heaved a sigh of relief over the drastic decrease in the number of positive cases in the country, Covid-19 tally in India surged past the eight million-mark with 49,881 cases registered in the past 24 hours.
According to the recent bulletin released by Union Health Ministry, the total caseload stood at 8,040,203 while the death toll also rose to 1,20,527 with 517 additional fatalities from Wednesday morning.
The recoveries have surged to 73.15 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 90.99 per cent and the fatality rate has further declined to 1.49 per cent.
There are 6,03,687 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 7.5 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

Meanwhile, Telangana recorded 1,504 Covid-19 new cases, 1,436 recoveries and 5 deaths on Thursday, taking total cases to 2,35,656. The total recoveries are noted to be 2,16,353, while death toll reached to 1,324.
Andhra Pradesh reported 2,949 new COVID-19 cases and 18 new deaths in 24 hours ending Wednesday morning taking the tally to 8,14,774.
The death toll increased to 6,643 while the death rate remains at 0.82%. Moreover, 3,609 patients have recovered and the number of the active case further came down to 26,622.
