In another esteem honour for the Kind Of Hearts, Thalaiva Rajinikanth, Union Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on Thursday announced that the former will receive the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019, India’s highest film honour.
Taking to his official Twitter account, the Union Minister wrote, “Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic.”
Announcing the news, the minister also lauded the legendary actor’s contribution to the film industry as an actor, producer and screenwriter. The name was reportedly a unanimous recommendation made by the 5-member jury- Asha Bhonsle, Mohanlal, Subhash Ghai, Biswajeet Chatterjee and Shankar Mahadevan.
His colleagues of the film industry and other important personalities rushed to wish the superstar via social media as Prime Minister Narendra Modi happened to amongst the politician who wished him first. The news came close on the heels of assembly polls in Tamil Nadu while the actor had earlier declared that will not get into politics after being hospitalised for fluctuation in blood pressure.
