Indian on Tuesday touched the 27 lakh positive cases-mark with a recent spike of over 55,000 COVID-19 cases. According to the official data from Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 55,079 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total caseload past the 27 lakh-mark.
With 880 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, the country’s death toll has surged to 51,025. As many as 19,77,779 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far while the reported active COVID-19 cases in India stand at 6,73,166
Five most affected states by a total tally of cases are Maharashtra (6,04,358), Tamil Nadu (338,055), Andhra Pradesh (289,000), Karnataka (226,966), and Uttar Pradesh (152,580).
Meanwhile, India achieves a record number of 8,99,864 COVID-19 tests in a single day on August 17.
India, the third-most-affected country by total cases and fourth by death toll, has added 431,983 cases in the past 7 days alone. It has left even the US and Brazil behind in seven-day average of daily new coronavirus cases.
