Despite being the state with less incidence of coronavirus, Telangana continued to rank among the top three states with high positivity rate i.e, total confirmed cases per 100 tests. Tensions ran high with the officials confirming the reinfection cases.
Amidst which, the number of positive cases in the police department, one of the pillars rendering services as front-line warriors have seen a sharp rise in Telangana.
According to the official data, over 5,684 police officials in the state working under various departments tested positive for the deadly viral infection so far. The count included 1,967 police personnel working in Hyderabad, followed by Warangal district with 526 positive officials. Rachakonda commissionerate, Khammam also noted a sharp rise in cases amongst the police fraternity.
Authorities confirmed that out of the infected officials 2,287 were discharged while 3,357 were being treated. It can be noted that out of the infected, 43 police personnel succumbed to the viral infection under treatment. Additional Superintendent of Police of Jagtial district, K Dakshina Murthy (58) was among the officials who breathed their last due to the deadly corona.
Earlier on August 10, the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Armed Reserve in Mahbubnagar, PS Shahshidar aged 50 passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was a 1996 batch Reserve Sub Inspector (RSI).
A 46-year-old police constable from Saidabad police station died while undergoing COVID-19 treatment. On March 20, a 37-year-old Hyderabad constable from Kulsumpura police station of the 2007 batch passed away after testing positive for COVID-19.
