Taking the total caseload past 75-lakh mark, India on Sunday logged 61,871 coronavirus infections in 24 hours. According to the official data from the Union Health Ministry, the number of cases in the country now stands at 74,94,551 in India, which is the second worst-hit country.
Active cases in the country now stand at 783,311, while 6,597,209 people have recovered from the disease so far. Reportedly, the very high testing has resulted in the continuous falling positivity rate, which has now fallen below 8%.
On the other hand, the country registered 1,033 fatalities taking the total death toll to 1,14,031. The fatality rate of 1.52 per cent on Friday was the lowest since March 22 which came as a relief for the health officials implementing various containment strategies.
A total of 9,42,24,190 samples tested for Covid-19 up to October 17. Of these, 9,70,173 samples were tested yesterday stated Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in a recent press release.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh reported 3,676 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking the cumulative caseload to 7,79,146. The toll increased to 6,406 as 24 more people died due to the pandemic virus.
Telangana, on the other hand, has reported 1,436 fresh coronavirus positive cases as per the health update released on Sunday, totalling the tally to 2,22,111. While the death toll went up to 1,271 with six persons dying of the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.
