Hours after surpassing Mexico, as the second worst-hit country in the world, India in the past 24 hours logged 75,809 fresh infections.
With this, the Indian states and union territories so far registered 42,80,423 cases so far while Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu continued to register the highest number of cases.
According to the latest reports from the union health ministry, India recorded 1,133 fatalities from Monday morning taking the total death toll to 72,775. As the official data confirms 33,23,951 recoveries so far, the country’s recovery rate on Tuesday stood at 77.3 per cent.
On the other hand, of the total cases registered so far, 8,83,697 people are currently undergoing treatment. A total of 5,06,50,128 samples tested up to September 7, 2020 while 10,98,621 samples were tested on Monday, says Indian Council of Medical Research.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh on Monday crossed the five-lakh mark in COVID-19 cases with 8,368 new cases recorded from Sunday morning. The state’s COVID-19 aggregate touched 5,06,493, while 70 more died, taking the total death toll up to 4,487.
Telangana on Tuesday recorded 2392 fresh cases taking the total caseload to 1,45,163. The state so far logged 906 fatalities including the 11 death in the last 24 hours.
