In an unfortunate chemical gas leak from LG Polymers industry at RR Venkatapuram near Naiduthota area close to Gopalapatnam, at least eight persons, including two senior citizens and a 6-year-old died after falling ill. According to the media reports, over 5,000 people fell sick while almost 500 are Visakhapatnam’s King George Hospital.
The incident occurred at LG Polymers in Andhra Pradesh’s in RR Venkatapuram village in Visakhapatnam around 3 am today. The maximum impact of the chemical gas styrene was witnessed in a 1.5 km radius of ground zero and odour was felt till 2-2.5 km, RK Meena, CP Visakhapatnam City. Police and special rescue teams on war footing are evacuating the locals.

Videos of many people lying unconscious on roads while some a few others panting with breathlessness are going viral on social media. People also complained of rashes on their body and soar eyes. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy enquired about the gas leak incident in Visakhapatnam and directed the district officials to take every possible step to save lives and bring the situation under control. It was reported that the CM would visit the affected place by 12 noon.
