In the wake of central government tweaking up the corona containment strategies, India on Monday nearly touched 55 lakh-mark with 86,961 new positive cases in the last 24 hours. According to the latest reports from the union health ministry, Indian states and union territories logged 1,130 deaths from Sunday morning taking the total death toll to 87,882.
With the recent new cases, the total caseload of the country reached to 54,87,581 of which, 10,03,299 are active cases, while 43,96,399 patients have already been cured/discharged/migrated. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh continued to top the chart of the worst-hit states by the outbreak.

India occupies the top position in the world in terms of total Covid-19 recoveries as the country constitutes 19 per cent of total global recoveries, said the Union ministry of health on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh, the second worst-hit state in the country on Monday recorded 7,738 new infections and 57 fatalities while the aggregate cases rose to 6,25,514. In all 5,41,319 patients have recovered, leaving 78,836 active cases in the state.
Telangana added 1,302 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the total infection count to 1,72,608, while the death toll rose to 1,041 with 9 more fatalities.
