Days after Jakob Lindenthal, a German exchange student from IIT-Madras was forcibly sent back for participating in anti-CAA protests, the nation witnessed a similar incident which came to limelight on Kochi on Friday. 71-year-old Janne-Mette Johansson, the Norwegian woman was bugged by the immigration officials on Thursday to leave India immediately. Janne arrived in India on a tourist visa and was seen participating in the anti-CAA protests which she later posted on her social media handle. This came to the notice of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), who are now looking into the matter along with the Union home ministry.
According to Janne who talked to media, the officials reached her hotel in Fort Kochi and asked her to pack her luggage and leave the country at the earliest. She also said that the official kept waiting for her until she packed her luggage and later was forced to leave India threatening her of taking legal actions otherwise. While probed in, the FRRO officials confined that they requested her to leave the country after violating the rules. However, Janne’s VISA is not cancelled and was asked to cooperate.
