As announced, KCR-led Telangana government on Tuesday piloted a resolution demanding Bharata Ratna to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in the Assembly sessions.
Lauding that the reforms brought by the visionary leader, the state government decided to demand Modi-led government to confer PV with the highest civilian award on the occasion of his birth centenary celebrations.
However, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) stood against the government’s decision which boycotted the proceedings of the Telangana Assembly as the state government unanimously passed a resolution. Further, the party chief, MP Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed the year-long PV centenary celebrations by the TRS government.
“AIMIM has decided to boycott today’s proceedings in Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. Our party cannot support resolution and discussion on centenary Celebrations of late PV Narasimha Rao,” read the official note released minutes after boycotting the procedures.
It can be recalled that it was during the regime of PV Narasimha Rao as Prime Minister that Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya which was unanimously opposed by all the Muslim outfits including United Muslim Forum (UMF), of which AIMIM is a part of.
However, going by the sources the decision doesn’t seem to affect the party affiliation and support with the ruling party in the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Not to support it is the stand of our party. This is purely an issue-based approach”, a senior MIM leader said.
