In an incident that came as a shock, Amaravati’s independent MP Navneet Kaur Rana on Wednesday came out that she has received acid attack threats from Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant. In a written complaint to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the actor-turned-politician she had been received calls threatening to attack her with acid and letters containing the Shiv Sena party’s letterhead.
She alleged that she is being warned of being jailed for talking in the House against the Maharashtra government. The MP has also said to a news channel that Bharat Margani, the Rajamundhry MP, had witnessed the incident unfolded in the Lok Sabha premises.
Lashing out that the way Shiv Sena parliamentarian Arvind Sawant has threats she has been receiving is an insult not just to her but to all the country’s women, Navneet Kaur sought the strictest of police action against Arvind Sawant.
However, Sawant who is a member from Sindhudurg has denied the allegation and said that he would stand with the women member if anybody has threatened of physical harm. He further accused Navneet Kaur of being disrespectful and rude while talking in Parliament.
