Right at the time when Indian celebrities and government are raising against the internationalisation of the farmers’ protest, the US Administration of President Joe Biden has made a crucial statement which left the internet divided.
Stating that it welcomes steps that would improve the efficiency of India’s markets and attract greater private sector investment, the US government acknowledged that peaceful protests are a hallmark of a thriving democracy.
“In general, the United States welcomes steps that would improve the efficiency of India’s markets and attract greater private sector investment,” quoted the State Department spokesperson.
The statements came after several former Indian cricketers and Hindi film industry personalities, who are massively popular among 1.3 billion Indians, favoured the resolution of the stalemate without any foreign interference. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement emphasising that the farmers’ protests must be seen in the context of India’s democratic ethos and polity.
