Jagan-led government which has been basking the victory of the recent gram panchayat and municipal elections has received yet another good news on Tuesday. In a rude shock to the state election commission, Andhra Pradesh HC dismissed the orders of SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar calling for a probe into unanimous elections in numerous constituencies.
Clarifying that the SEC did not have the power to investigate unanimously and struck down the SEC orders, a division bench of the high court directed the SEC to immediately formally declare the MPTC and ZPTC. The SEC was instructed to issue a declaration to the selected candidates immediately.
To note, as many as 126 ZPTCs and 2,363 MPTCs were declared unanimous, as no other candidates had filed their nominations while there are 660 ZPTCs and 9,984 MPTCs in the state. The oppositions filed complaints with the SEC alleging that the ruling YSRCP has forcefully threatened the contestants of other parties to refrain from filing nominations.
Responding to these allegations, the SEC asked the court to conduct an inquiry. With the latest court ruling, the unanimous results will be carried forward. However, with the latest orders issued by the HC, the unanimous results will be carried forward.
