In what can be called the pre-finals for the political parties in Andhra Pradesh, the state which has been in the doldrums for the past few months is all set for the urban local bodies (ULBs) on Wednesday.
The State Election Commission(SEC) has made all the arrangement, while the voting is underway in 12 Municipal Corporations, including Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, and 75 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.
According to the data furnished by SEC, over 78.71 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their right to votes today in 7,915 voting booths set up under COIVD protocol. The SEC appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise during the poll hours between 7 AM and 5 PM on Wednesday.
The main fight is between the ruling YSRCP and the opposition TDP that are locking horns in the cities of Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Chittoor, YSR Kadapa, Kurnool, Ananthapur. Pawan Kalyan’s JanaSena emerged out to be the main contender proving the mettle in recent panchayat elections, while left parties are vying to make their presence felt.
Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan, along with Lady Governor Suprava Harichandan, will participate in the process for the first time after assuming the charge, by casting his vote in elections to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
