The legal battle between the A.P. government and the State Election Commission (SEC) over holding Gram Panchayat (GP) elections reached a saturation point with HC ruling in favour of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar. Going ahead, the SEC on Saturday issued a notification for the four-phase panchayat polls.
However, what turned interesting is he state government employees associations representatives plunging into action supporting the state government against the polls.
Though it has been an open secret that the employees are reluctant towards the polls, things took a drastic turn with SEC suspending collectors and SPs on Friday.
Condemning the SEC’s move, the government employee unions warned of adverse consequences if the SEC chose to dive against the government with regard to the local polls. The union leaders warned that if their request was ignored and the SEC did not withdraw the notification, failing which they would boycott the elections or go on strike if necessary.
Further, speaking to the media, Andhra Pradesh Employees Union chairman Venkatrami Reddy clarified that he had only spoken about the rights enshrined in the constitution and had not made any personal remarks to anyone.
