Things turned tough for tipplers in Andhra Pradesh after the lockdown while the state government hiked the liquor prices by 75 per cent. While the government’s intention is to bring down the alcohol consumption, nor did citizen compromise, the alcohol sales at once spike with the fear of another strike lockdown.
Amidst which, over 36 people’s death after consuming sanitiser and surgical spirit reported in West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Prakasam, Vijayawada and Kadapa due to high alcohol prices in the state.
On the other hand, huge smuggling of liquor to AP from Telangana and Karnataka is taking place from the past few months. There have been hundreds of such cases registered a the state boarders even after heavy penalties.
This reportedly increased the pressure on Jagan and his team to bring the liquor prices from the past few days. Seems like the government decided to come down, while sources confirmed that there would be a huge reduction in the current liquor prices in the state.
It is learnt that the AP government is speculating to bring down the alcohol prices by 40-50 per cent in the next few days.
