With the support from several trade unions and the Andhra Pradesh government to the bandh called against the central government’s farmer bills, the state on Friday came to a halt from the morning. While several organisations voluntarily closed their businesses, all the educational institutions declared a holiday in support of the trade unions.
Normal life is seen effected with APSRTC buses confined to deports and autos to stands. Along with the YSRCP government, the CPI(M), CPI and CPI-ML extended their support to the Andhra Pradesh bandh except for BJP. BJP’s alliance partner in the state, Jana Sena, on the other hand, has also expressed concern over the privatisation.
The Opposition TDP leader held a demonstration at Pandit Nehru Bus Station this morning. Holding black flags, the protesters raised slogans of “Save Steel Plant” and “Visakha Ukku, Andhrula Hakku” and staged a road blockade on the national highway, at the VSP gate in Kurmannapalem.
TDP chief and former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is travelling to Vizag to participate in the protests going to be held by the workers and staff of the steel plant today.
