The renovation works at the sacred Yadagirigutta Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple have triggered yet another controversy. Months after the temple authorities drew flak over carving KCR and his party symbols on the pillars of the temple, various other rumours questioning the authenticity of the main stone deity in the sanctum sanctorum brought new worries to the ardent devotees. According to the information from the trusted sources, it was revealed that the as part of renovation and rebuilding works, the authorities have also changed the features of the self-manifested main deity of the scared Lakshminarasimha Swamy. News has it that they touched the deity which is completely restricted according to the ancient Aagamanas. The witnesses also claim that the authorities have also changed the seven-headed Adisesha statue which covers the main deity’s Swami’s head.
Above all, the features of the main statue in the sanctum sanctorum were also allegedly changed. A few of the devotees claimed the deity now looks fierce with pointed teeth, rather a peaceful-looking one previously. When taken to the notice of the authorities, the official priests tried to cover up the allegations stating that they just scrawled the decade-old sindhur out of the deity’s face which is making it look fierce.
Nallamdhegal Narasimhachryulu, the head priest reaffirmed that the deity was as the same which has been devoted from centuries. The information has it that a few of the devotees even approached Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji over the issue. However, the allegations have triggered flak from the public for denting the spirituality of one of the most sacred temples in the state.
