Despite the beefed-up security across the city, thousands of protestor from various Muslim outfits marched towards the State Secretariat from Walajah Road to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens & National Population Register. Defying the Madras High Court orders to refrain from the siege to the Secretariat, Federation of Tamil Nadu Islamic with various other Muslim groups led a crowd of about 15,000 citizens. The protestors have reportedly made an agreement with the police that they wouldn’t go near the assembly building.

Agitators were seen marching towards the secretariat holding national flag and placards against CAA, NRC & NPR. Ahead of the announced protests, heavy security has been put in place in the city’s Chepauk area. The Muslim outfits have called for the protests across the state with the ruling AIADMK coming in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. With thousands of protestor including women participating in the protest, Chennai reminded of Shaheen Bagh which has been holding nonstop of protests against the controversial bills. Major cities like Trichy, Cuddalore, and Tiruvannamalai also held similar protests on Wednesday.
