Almost 20 days after a Dalit man from Vedullapalli village, Andhra Pradesh was beaten and his head and moustache shaved allegedly by two policemen right in the police station, the President office on Wednesday turned furious over the incident.
Considering the incident to be a serious offence, President Ram Nath Kovid issued orders appointing a special officer to probe into the issue. This came days after the Vara Prasad, the victim penned a letter to the President office seeking justice. Responding to the letter, the President instructed the Andhra Pradesh government to take action against the guilty.
It was learnt that AP government has responded to the letter and informed the President office that a Sub-Inspector at the police station concerned has been arrested, while two constables were already placed under suspension.
A Dalit youth had his head tonsured and was beaten up, allegedly by police acting on behalf of the local YSRCP leader, in East Godavari district. The offence he did was refusing to run his sand trucks for the last rites of someone in their locality. The incident has triggered wrath from from all ends while opposition TDP demanded detailed probe.
