Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, the holiest Sikh shrines in Pakistan where Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism was born was attacked by the angry Pakistani mob on Friday. The mob was reportedly led by Mohammad Imran, the brother of Mohammad Hassan, the man who allegedly abducted and converted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur. The mob surrounded the gurdwara and pelted it with stones with high tensions in the surroundings. Apart from the attack, the besieged Sikhs were threatened that they would be killed if opposing their will which can be seen in the videos recorded.
While Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has appealed to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to intervene, the issue drew a sharp reaction from politician and netizens who took to social media to condemn the attack. Kaur was renamed Ayesha Bibi, and her brother Manmohan Singh and other family members lodged a complaint against Hassan his friends and family members. The incident had then brought the two communities on the verge of a clash and Pakistan Punjab’s governor Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar had to intervene to resolve the issue.
The videos of Mohammad Imran threatening Sikhs and saying they would not be allowed to stay in Nankana Sahib are going viral on social media.
