With the demands to issue capital punishment to the culprits in Hyderabadi Vet Disha’s rape and murder, the Parliamentary session on Monday shook with ‘No Mercy’ slogans from the MPs from various states. While the senior leaders spoke their hearts out condemning the brutal murder, a few demanded justice by making strict laws so that the culprits can’t escape from justice being served. Several MPs made a case for setting up more fast track courts to deal with cases of sexual assault.
Speaking on the heinous murder, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu stated that we all have the responsibility to change our mindset and approach towards women security. “Changing the laws is not the only solutions, people need to change,” he added. Venkaiah Naidu also suggested a rethink on the practice of allowing convicts in heinous crimes to go in for mercy appeals. Claiming the assaults against women as a societal disease, he said that flaws in the legal system need to be addressed. “What is required is not a new bill. What is required is political will, administrative skill, change of mindset and then go for the kill of the social evil,” opined the senior leader.
