Tensions ran high at the Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad as the relatives of a deceased Coronavirus patient attacked doctors accusing them of negligence in their duties. The incident took place in the late hours of Wednesday after a 49-year-old man who had been admitted to the hospital one week back succumbed to the disease earlier.
According to the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) at the hospital, two male and one female relative of the patient, who were also positive for COVID-19 attacked doctors who were on duty. Followed by which the city police commissioner Anjani Kumar rushed to the hospital while all the doctors on-call condemned the attack. Telangana Health Minister Etela Rajender also condemned the attack on a doctor at Gandhi Hospital and assured strict action against the attackers.
“Doctors and medical staff are risking their lives to save people’s lives. Attacking the doctors is a damning act,” said the Health Minister Reportedly, the relatives of the man also damaged hospital property and even broke the windows. The government then beefed up security at the hospital with one additional DCP deployed and made in-charge by the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
