While the global media claimed India to be the capital of selfie deaths, the prevailing circumstances give no chance to deny the above statement. A number of people especially youth are falling victims to this new trend of clicking selfies. As a step to curb this dangerous craze, Guntur district rural police have come up with a strict rule to impose a ban on selfies by the public particularly at water bodies. The police came up with the ban, days after a local student Dhana Lakshmi died accidentally falling into the water while she was taking a selfie at a canal bridge in Kandlagunta. On this note, Piduguralla rural CI A Surendra Babu, stated that they have taken like conducting awareness programs and installing signboards at the water bodies. “ We have identified a few of the dangerous places and declared them as ‘no-selfie zones’ to alert the visitors,” he added. The authorities expressed three hope that this might bring down the accidents caused due to the trails to get a selfie.
