“It is a victory against the conspiracy that was hatched to defeat me from Nandigram,” stated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after her historic win in the by-poll to Bhabanipur seat by a margin of 58,832 votes on Sunday.
Addressing people after she defeated BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal, Didi (as dearly called by her followers) thanked the people for giving her victory.
Targeting the BJP-led central government, Didi said “I was hurt in my feet so that I don’t contest the polls. I am grateful to the public for voting for us and to ECI for conducting polls within 6 months. Mamata had to contest in the by-election as she was defeated in Nandigram by her former colleague Adhikari.
BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal is in the second position with more than 25,000 votes, followed by CPI-M candidate Srijib Biswas. The Trinamool Congress is also leading in the other two seats of the Murshidabad district.
