Responding to the plea to extend his medical bail considering his deteriorating neurological problem, the Bombay High Court on Monday directed that Bhima Koregaon accused Dr. Varavara Rao need not surrender till September 25, 2021.
Hearing the plea, the Court modification of the bail conditions to permit him to stay at his home in Hyderabad instead of staying in Mumbai. It can be noted that Varavara, the poet-activist Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case was granted interim bail on medical grounds on February 22 this year for a period of six months.
On the other hand, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is conducting a probe into the case, opposed Mr Rao’s plea for the extension of medical bail. NIA claimed that Varavara Rao’s medical reports did not indicate that he suffers from any serious medical ailment.
The NIA, in its affidavit, further said the Taloja prison, located in neighboring Navi Mumbai, had adequate health care facilities and Mr Rao can be provided with the “best medical facilities” there.
