After spending almost two weeks being the bars, the teacher & student’s mother in the Karnataka’s Shaheen School sedition case were granted bail by the local court in Karnataka’s Bidar district on Friday. The two women were arrested on January 30 after the students of a school allegedly performed a play criticising the Citizenship Amendment Act. The district principal and sessions judge granted bail to Najbunnisa and Fareeda Begum against a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh each. The two women have also been asked by the court to appear before the investigating officer in the case when they are called upon.
The police arrested Fareeda Begum, headmistress of the school who oversaw the event, and Najamunissa, the mother of one of the students on January 30. The issue came to limelight after a video of the play shows at least a hundred children on stage played an act which was alleged to be against a particular religion. The police had booked the school management for provocation of enmity under sections 504, 505(2), 124(A) and 153 (A) of the IPC.
