Followed by a massive embarrassment after a video of the newly sworn-in education minister of Bihar unable to recite the national anthem correctly went viral, minister Mewalal Choudhary on Thursday put down his resignation three days after he assumed office.
While the incident reportedly did not take place recently, it surfaced online in the wake of allegations against him related to corruption. In the video that went viral, the minister is heard singing “Punjab Vasant Gujarat Maratha” instead of “Punjab Sindh Gujarat Maratha”.

At what appears to be a school event was shared by Rashtriya Janata Dal, Mewalal not only mispronounced many words but also added random words before abruptly ending the national anthem. The leader soon turned into a meme material while the state’s main opposition party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, questioned the ruling BJP-JDU.
It can be recalled that Mewalal had been sacked from the JD-U three years ago for alleged involvement in a corruption case when he headed the Bihar Agriculture University. He was also accused of irregularities in the appointment of assistant professors and junior scientists at the Bihar Agriculture University (BAU) in Bhagalpur when he was its vice-chancellor.
