Amidst the on-going pandemic situation, the first phase of Bihar elections for 71 assembly constituencies is underway with all the lockdown guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. While 1,066 candidates are on the fray, more than two crores voters would decide the fate of the state.
According to the data furnished by the EC, nearly 2.15 crore electors eligible to exercise the franchise, 1.12 crore are male, 1.01 crore female and 599 are from the third gender. Guidelines like cap on the maximum number of voters for a polling booth from 1,600 to 1,000, polling hours, separate ballots for aged people are made across the booths.
Besides making facemasks compulsory, arrangements like regular sanitisation of electronic voting machines availability of thermal scanner, hand sanitiser, soap and water were ensured. Meanwhile, addressing the state votes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to exercise their right to vote.
