Seems like Facebook India kicked off corrective measures after the allegations over favouring BJP and RSS. Days after US-based Wall Street Journal’s article claiming BJP & RSS are making efforts to control social media in India especially through Facebook, party’s Telangana unit MLA T Raja Singh FB account on Thursday was suspended.
At least five profiles of Singh, which had more than 3 lakh followers, showed the message that ‘this content is not available right now’. The politician was banned for violating Facebook’s policy on content promoting hate and violence, confirmed Facebook spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
This came close on the heels of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology chaired by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor questioning Facebook India officials over alleged political bias. The hearing reportedly ended without any resolution and Facebook representatives will be summoned again.
It can be noted that the BJP leader last month claimed that he does not have any official Facebook page. Claiming that his official Facebook account was hacked and blocked in 2018, Raja Singh said he only has an official YouTube and Twitter account. “I’m not responsible for any of their posts,” he had said.
