Claimed to be one of the most dramatic victories in the country, Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party scores a landslide victory in the UK general elections. In the results announced on Friday, the British Prime Minister passed the threshold of 326 seats to give them a majority in the Parliament. This has put the country on course to leave the European Union(EU) by the new year, his campaign on a single promise to “Get Brexit Done” has helped in maintaining his seat. Jeremy Corbyn-led opposition Labour Party stated that he would soon step down taking the responsibility of the defeat.
By the time of reporting, the Conservative party won 362 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons, with Boris winning his own seat in London’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip. In his speech after winning the seat, Boris stated that the victory was historic. “It does look as though this one nation Conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done. And not just to get Brexit done, but to unite this country and to take it forward and to focus on the priorities of the British people,” he averred. While the opposition Jeremy Corbyn won his own seat in London’s Islington North constituency, he confronted that it has been a very disappointing night for Labour.
