Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone’s sudden visit to the JNU campus on Tuesday has not only hit the headlines but has triggered fan wars on social media. Despite the fact that her film ‘Chhapaak’ is set for the release in a couple of days, the actress chose to come out joining the protest at campus led by Aishe Ghosh, Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNUSU) president. This revelation witnessed a split in the social media while #RespectDeepika and a contrary #BoycottDeepika started trending on Twitter. Though Deepika refused to talk to media over her visit, the actress spent a considerable amount of time at the campus amidst the protesting students and staff.

It"s nice to see people coming out on the streets. I feel proud that people are voicing their opinion whether on the streets or from their homes.' #DeepikaPadukone

Her visit drew admiration from many. While makers Anurag Kashyap and Nikhil Advani took to Twitter to laud the actress, many other celebs and netizens admired her bold move. However, Deepika welcomed criticism also. BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga tweeted her photo at JNU with an appeal to boycott her movies. Many of the Hindu outfits openly condemned her visit stating this to be discursive support to anti-social activists.
