The Corona turned into bane in disguise for an alcohol beverage company which is now bothered over the unnecessary attention it has been receiving from January 18th. According to the trends revealed by various search engine analysts, the words ‘corona beer virus’, ‘beer virus’, and ‘beer corona virus’ have seen a tremendous increase in online search results in recent times. While searches for ‘beer virus’ jumped 744% in the same period, searches for ‘beer coronavirus’ jumped 3,233%. Though there is no link between Coronavirus and Corona beverages, the similarity in names has brought the issue trending.
It all probably started with people who wanted to search about the symptoms and updates regarding the Coronavirus and accidentally stumble upon with Corona beer which is being shown the search results. “Corona” in Latin means a crown, and the word is the same in Spanish. Corona beer originated in Mexico. The chaos started while people across the world started speculating if the drink is responsible for the transmission of this pneumonia-like disease or if it would help in reducing the symptoms. It was reported that many of the people mistook this to be the medicine to help reduce the infection. Maggie Bowman, senior communications director at Constellation Brands, Corona’s producer stated that their company does not seem to be concerned and trusts their consumers.
