Brushing aside his claims of ensuring inclusiveness and social justice, is Chief Minister Jagan slowly aligning his governance giving the lion’s share to his community?
His decision to designating five Deputy Chief Ministers, one each from Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Kapus and Muslim Minorities has received huge applause from all over the country. And not more than three months of this Jagan’s governance has fallen prey to trolls quoting it as ‘All icing, no cake’. Rather being a ruling and opposition parties, the state politics has now become a turf war between Reddy and Kamma communities. Adding fuel to these flames, the Jagan government is steadily swapping in all the prominent roles with their kith and kin.
A social media trend on social media with hashtag #highlyrespectedreddy is going viral whenever a new person from the Reddy community is being garnered with a key role. Megha Krishna Reddy, the MEIL’s lead grabbing the Polavaram project and appointing the retired IPS officer Sasidhar Reddy as OSD for the intelligence wing are the recent examples. On this note, netizens took to social media to question Jagan about the promise to allot 50 per cent of the nominated posts in all departments to BC, SC, ST and women. While we still wonder if everything is going under Jagan instructions or a clever strategy of his close allies, few political analysts have a new angle. They opined that this scenario of building a broad caste coalition might get stronger to continue the winning streak in 2024.
